Wild Food Café Islington

OPENED 217 DAYS AGO

Plant-based eatery Wild Food Café opens a second location in Islington.

Wild Food Café has become a staple for health-conscious individuals, but the colourful Covent Garden eatery has become too small for its undeniable success. With bigger plans in mind, the forward-thinking owners Joel and Aiste Gazdar have launched a second restaurant on Angel’s Upper Street.

Wild Food Cafe Islington - interior

The Spot:

While Wild Food Café in Covent Garden is rustic and brimming with vibrant colours (matching the quirky surroundings in Neal’s Yard), the new location in Islington has an entirely different design. The light-filled space is bigger in size and features many modern elements, from a sleek-looking, geometric-patterned bar to light wooden furnishings and oversized light-bulb fixtures – it’s a Pinterest dream.

The Food:

The bigger space allows for more creativity in the kitchen, including gluten-free wood-fired pizzas and a so-called ‘wild’ brunch, while still taking the raw food route with foraged ingredients and heirloom produce. To start, nibble on pulled jackfruit sandwich bites, king oyster scallops, or the wabi-sabi kale salad (grilled seasonal squash, priobiotic kimchi, activated tamari almonds and plenty more goodness). Mains are heartier; try the “Living Laska”, a Malaysian favourite gone vegan with help from coconut broth, or “Queen of the Forest” (coconut-seared plantain stew).

The Drinks:

Wild Food Café in Islington also offers a more refined bar offering, ranging from seasonally changing juices to herbal tonics and smoothies. Even cocktails feel guilt free, promising health benefits with superfoods and medicinal ingredients.

The Damage:

Small dishes are priced at around £4-£6; mains range between £6.5 and £15.

In a Nutshell:

Wild Food Café was dishing out plant-based plates before it become a fashionable trend, but to keep up with London’s fast-growing and competitive vegan scene, a bigger location with bolder offerings and room for reservations(!) was a necessary next move.
