‘BEST OPENING’S OF 2016’ WINNER

Veneta, one of the newest restaurants in Central London, has just opened in St. James’s Market.

This is the Salt Yard Group’s latest venture. Their eponymous small plates restaurant, Salt Yard, first opened in Fitzrovia in 2005. The group also counts Dehesa and Ember Yard in Soho, as well as Opera Tavern in Covent Garden, amongst its other ventures.

Venetian Dining

The 110-cover Veneta, is a charcuterie bar and restaurant is located at the St. James’s Market development. The Venetian haunt has set up shop in a hotly contested neighbourhood featuring the likes of Fumo, Kiln and Margot.

It draws inspiration from the ancient Italian city, Venice. The inspiration is evident in its design, but of course tempered with an element of modern glamour. The set-up here caters for all sorts of dining experiences, from bar counter seating to banquette booths, as well as more intimate tables.

There is a mezzanine seating level overlooking the main restaurant that can be hired for private occasions. If you prefer to dine al fresco, take a table on the outdoor terrace, perfect for an espresso and pastry break.

Head Chef Jamie Thickett

As one may hope, the menu is similarly Venetian-inspired. The dishes, mostly based upon Venetian classics, use traditional cooking techniques and aim to highlight the quality of produce from the region. It is overseen by Chef Director Ben Tish, who has been with the Salt Yard Group since 2006.

The kitchen, however, is headed up by Jamie Thickett, previously head chef of Opera Tavern. Early risers can try their take on a Venetian breakfast. Choose from artisan charcuterie and cheeses, all carefully sourced from Veneto, and served from a handcrafted trolley.

There is also a raw bar, featuring the best of British and Venetian seafood. And, of course, as in any Italian restaurant, there is a wine menu to match – exclusively featuring Northern Italian wines.
