Tish

OPENED 143 DAYS AGO

Belsize Park welcomes a new kosher restaurant and bar, Tish.

Tish offers an all-day menu of European cuisine, with a focus on comforting Jewish fare. There are sandwiches too, which might just make it onto our guide to London’s best sandwiches…

Tish - Salt Beef

The Spot:

Owner David S. Levin wanted to create a beautiful setting for a Jewish experience unique to London – it’s safe to say he succeeded. Seating up to 160 people, the dining room boasts soaring-high ceilings, mint green wood-panelled walls and grand chandeliers, while serving a special Shabbat menu on Friday nights and Saturday afternoon. In keeping with tradition, you’re encouraged to enjoy your company, unplug from your phone and feast without Instagramming – we’re not sure that’s a verb, but you get the picture (just don’t take one).

Tish - Sea Bass

The Food:

Head chef John Ellison (previously of Bob Bob Ricard and The Club at the Ivy) has crafted a dairy-free menu with small plates and main dishes for any time of the day. Expect comforting fare such as crispy duck leg with red cabbage and cranberry jus; Hungarian bean soup; and sandwiches with steak or smoked salmon. Breakfast is perfect if you have a sweet tooth – think Challah French toast with pear compote and maple syrup, crêpes with fruit and chocolate sauce, as well as Jewish delicacies from the bakery.

Tish - Butternut squash risotto

The Drinks:

Tish offers an extensive drink list with wines, spirits and cocktails, including several takes on the spritz (with pomegranate and hibiscus tea or with Cointreau and cassis), a rhubarb sour, and a Margarita with chilli and coriander.

The Damage:

Small dishes cost around £4- £12, large plates vary between £14 and £27, while breakfast costs no more than £9.50. Cocktails are priced at £9-£13.

Tish - Chocolate Passion Fruit Fondant

In a Nutshell:

Tish manages to balance traditional Jewish dishes with modern fare, offering everything from deli-style sandwiches and meatballs to seared salmon with green kale salsa and vegetable salads.
