The Office & Disco Kitchen

OPENED 148 DAYS AGO

The Office is a new cocktail bar, coffee shop and restaurant on the Kingsland Road.

It provides coffee by day and cocktails by night, with food from the Disco Picnic Collective’s Disco Kitchen.

The Spot:

The interior is friendly and homely, with exposed brick walls, fairy lights and some especially cosy-looking red leather sofas. The main bar also offers members’ cards with discounts for people who work locally, so keep an eye out.

The Food:

Disco Kitchen’s menu covers brunch and lunch, with street food-style small plates in the evenings and roasts on a Sunday. You can take it all away, too – even the roasts. It’s not frowned upon to eat Yorkshire puddings on the tube, right?

All dishes on the brunch menu are vegetarian, with the option to add meat. We’ll be ordering the Cowboy Beans: smoky baked beans, a poached egg and pickled chillies on toasted sourdough. Vegetarians and vegans are looked after on the main menu, too (although several dishes are mushroom-based), and lots of menu items are gluten-free.

On the street food menu you’ll find croquettes, burgers and fries – including skin-on steak frites served with a heavenly-sounding marrow mayonnaise. The lunch menu is burgers only and from noon to 7pm on a Sunday you can get roasts – beef, chicken or, yes, mushroom Wellington. This comes with vegan gravy, though, which is not to be sniffed at.

The Drinks:

Coffee comes from Brighton-based Brewed (say that five times fast), and tea from Good & Proper. The wine, beer and spirits lists have been put together with low costs in mind, but it’s the cocktails that stand out for us – slight quirks on classics, with fun names like Lady Garden (vodka, lemon juice, lavender syrup, Prosecco) and Scotch Egg (Copper Dog Scotch, hibiscus syrup, egg white, lime juice, vanilla bitters).

The Damage:

Brunch dishes and street food are £6.50–10, and roasts £13–14. Cocktails are £7.50–7.90.

In a Nutshell:

While Shoreditch isn’t short of quirky places to eat and drink, this place has a lot on offer, and is open til 3am Fridays and Saturdays, which means after-work drinks can go on even longer. We’ll leave it up to you whether or not that’s a good thing.

For more places for brunch, lunch and more, you’ll need JOL’s interactive map of new openings.
