The Best Wimbledon-Inspired Dishes and Drinks
The biggest tennis tournament of the year has officially started, and the world of food and drink is joining in on the fun. Chefs are getting inventive in the kitchen and bartenders are creating new limited-edition cocktails – this is our guide to the best Wimbledon-inspired dishes and drinks.
Wimbledon wouldn’t be Wimbledon without strawberries and cream (fun fact: on average, 10,000 litres of cream and 28,000 kg of strawberries are eaten at the tournament each year). Upscale restaurant 34 Mayfair offers an elevated take on the winning combination, with the wittily named “Game, Set, Gin” dessert. You’ll receive your strawberries and cream with chocolate tennis balls, which are filled with a gin and tonic jelly.

Giving us full Wimbledon fever, the contemporary British restaurant inside the Shard is offering both a cocktail and dessert. A slight shift from tradition, the Wimbledon dessert features strawberry pavlova, Champagne sorbet, strawberries and oat crumble, while their Pimm’s is made with white chocolate liqueur, strawberry compote and lemonade.

The Arch London
Just when you think the tennis tournament can’t get any more British, The Arch London introduces an afternoon tea with Wimbledon-themed treats. Think edible gingerbread tennis rackets, tennis balls (made with orange and lemon mousse), and a ‘centre court’ almond financier cake. Of course, there will be strawberries and cream too (and buttery scones!), as well as a classic Pimm’s.

If you’re looking for something a little more casual, Tart London has brought a Wimbledon pop-up to the newly developed Eccleston Yards – ahead of its official opening later this year. The pop-up serves the signature summer duo with a secret twist, infusing basil into the cream and finishing it off with exciting toppings (caramelised hazelnuts, maple almond crumbs and almond butter). Oh and there’s a retro airstream truck on site too, serving Pimm’s and cocktails.

Located on Regent’s Canal with a great outdoor terrace, The Waterway serves a special Wimbledon Smash cocktail. Taking inspiration from – wait for it – strawberries and cream, the cocktail combines muddled strawberries with Beefeater gin, St Germain elderflower liqueur, fresh cream, lime, sugar and grenadine.
