Sub Cult

OPENED 73 DAYS AGO

Award-winning sandwich slingers Sub Cult have launched an 18-month pop up in The City’s shipping container site, Whitecross Place.

They’re famous for their American style sub rolls, stuffed with a range of creative fillings that go way beyond cheese and pickle.

Sub Cult Beef

The Spot:

This is part of the increasingly interesting Whitecross Place collection of shipping containers, which are housing some of London’s favourite street food stars, like Baba G’s and Yolk.

Sub Cult Skandi

The Food:

We’ve long been fans of Sub Cult’s work and look forward to getting our chops around their sandwiches once more. The bread is key here and something they’ve worked on with Rinkoff’s Bakery in east London, to get just the right balance between a brioche and bagel dough.

The fillings are always fun, and some of their signatures have made it onto the menu, including The Rodeo, which is rare roast beef, truffle mayo, Grana Padano cheese, shallot jam and pickled Serrano chilli – it’s rich and full on in the best possible way. Another favourite is the Skandi sub with its combo of smoked salmon, cream cheese, lemon dill and the genius twist that is beetroot kimchi. Oh, and we should mention the award-winning veggie Subterranean, which is griddled mushroom, roast garlic, thyme, truffle mayo and Stilton.

The best thing about these guys is that they understand the balance of flavours necessary to create a good sandwich – something rich, creamy, pickled and so on – and they pay close attention to detail.

Sub Cult Mushroom

The Drinks:

There’s a range of soft drinks from Fairtrade and organic drinks brand Karma Cola and coffee from Climpson & Sons.

The Damage:

Subs are priced between £4.95-£6.95 which is great value considering their size.

Sub Cult Vegan

In a Nutshell:

We’re really pleased that Sub Cult has moved into this spot as it’s significantly upped the ante in terms of breakfast and lunch options in the area. These are serious subs.
