St John at Hackney Brewery

OPENED 218 DAYS AGO

A craft brewery, bar and restaurant – St John at Hackney Brewery – arrives inside Hackney Central.

Located beneath the railway tracks lining Bohemia Place, St John at Hackney Brewery is the first to join the newly renovated arches, which will soon become a hub for food and drink operators.

The Spot:

Brought to you by co-founders Luke Scanlon and brewer Ryan Robbins, St John at Hackney Brewery takes over two archways – one for the brewing equipment and one for the bar and kitchen. The whole space boasts an industrial design, with exposed brick, concrete floors and steel-framed windows, while a wooden structure on the ceiling creates a warmer ambiance. But the best part is outside, where you’ll find a large terrace with ample seating and magical festoon lights.

The Food:

St John at Hackney Brewery offers a rotating menu of different cuisines, starting with traditional Cypriot food by Éla. Taking inspiration from a kebab shop in Nicosia, Cyprus, the menu features both small plates and larger sharing dishes. Think skewers or kebabs with freshly made pitas, served with homemade sauces and sides such as Orzo (rice-shaped pasta) and Cypriot cabbage salad.

The Drinks:

Finally, the information you’re really interested in. Headed by brewer Robbins, St John at Hackney Brewery focuses on American-style beers, including pale ale, lager, IPA and an imperial stout. You will also find top beers and wines from around the world, just in case you’re not ready to give up your go-to drink.

The Damage:

That really depends on how long you will be spending your time here…

In a Nutshell:

With a unique offering of beers and a varying kitchen concept, St John at Hackney Brewery might just become of those places you want to revisit over and over again. While the brewery and restaurant is the first to hit Hackney Central, we can’t wait to see the space transform into a bustling food and drink destination.
