Soul Store West

OPENED 152 DAYS AGO

Soul Store West is live and kicking out tunes on Kilburn High Street.

This all-day diner, cocktail bar and hotel plays soul and funk records on rotation, served alongside hearty Southern-style food by Chicago Rib Shack.

The Spot:

As the name suggests, this new music venue and eatery in West London has Soul. Here, the tunes take centre stage. Both headline acts and lesser-known talent play out their beats live from Thursday through to Sunday, so everyone has a fair chance of enjoying a jam.

By the weekend, Soul Store West is fully swinging out the songs, and as the night goes on, DJs from some of London’s best clubs and festivals take over. But don’t expect any pretentious DJ divas. In the name of true soul, this spot is all about giving power to the people. Friends and music industry insiders mingle freely to create impromptu sets and curate an arts programme dedicated to West London rock ‘n’ roll.

The Food:

Soul Store West has collaborated with the Chicago Rib Shack to offer up classic stateside fare. It’s all about those smokey flavours with baby back, St. Louis and beef ribs tasting equal parts tangy, sweet, sharp and spicy. With a central smokery preparing applewood chips for a minimum of six hours, these guys are using authentic slow-cooking techniques to go back to Southern roots. Our verdict? Old school definitely wins the taste race.

The Drinks:

Over in Soul Store West‘s cocktail bar, there’s more than a touch of Motown influence. Tipples take generous inspiration from fruity, dark rum concoctions. To truly swing your way to the deep South, we recommend trying the Peach Tea Smash.

The Damage:

Did we mention that this was a place for the people? This means that prices have been kept reasonable. You’re looking at £18 for top-level ribs, but a Cajun chicken burger measures up at £9.50.

In a Nutshell:

Soul Store West is a rare example of a spot that puts the community at the heart of what they do. If you’re looking for a laid-back, welcoming spot to enjoy the vibes of London’s top music talent, then this is the place for you.

West London’s recent openings also include 100 Kensington and Balans. Check our interactive map of new restaurant openings around London for more to eat & drink in the city.
