Roganic

OPENED 280 DAYS AGO

Roganic is back. Simon Rogan’s hugely successful and much-missed restaurant has reopened in Marylebone, and this time it’s a permanent fixture.

The original restaurant was open back in 2011 and closed in 2013. Now it’s reopened, serving dishes from his development restaurant, Aulis. We suggest you hotfoot it here as fast as you can – it’s definitely one of the best restaurants in central London.

The Spot:

It’s on the exact same road as the original pop up, so you shouldn’t have any problems finding it if you were a fan of the original.

The Food:

Rogan wound up the Michelin-starred Fera at Claridge’s last year when his three-year contract with the hotel came to an end. He then announced his plan to bring back Roganic.

Head chef Oliver Marlow leads the kitchen, which is lovely as he was part of the original team at Roganic. The menu is available as a short or long tasting menu (or a set ‘business lunch’) and includes clever dishes such as artichoke broth with smoked yolk and winter leaves; seaweed custard and caviar; caramelised apple with douglas fir, and smoked juniper fudge. It changes with the seasons, of course, and all ingredients are carefully sourced, with much coming from Rogan’s farm in Cumbria. We had a little tour of the farm late last year and so we know they’re growing some exciting fruit and veg up there.

Rogan’s food has always been very vegetable-driven and he really can transform them into something extraordinary. He also cooks meat and fish, though, so don’t go expecting a vegetarian experience.

The Damage:

The set business lunch menu is £40 and the tasting menus are £115  with a £80 wine pairing (long) or £80 (short) with a £50 wine pairing.

In a Nutshell:

Simon Rogan is one of our best chefs; this is high-end food and seriously skilful cooking. A meal at his Cartmel restaurant L’Enclume last year was excellent and lasted for several wonderful hours – don’t expect to be popping into Roganic for a quick bite anytime soon. You’re there for the long haul. Embrace it.
