RedFarm

OPENED 34 DAYS AGO

New York’s celebrated Chinese restaurant RedFarm arrives in Covent Garden.

Operating many high-end Chinese restaurants and attracting the likes of Frank Sinatra, owner Ed Schoenfeld has made quite a name for himself in New York’s dining scene. Now, his top-rated venture RedFarm has finally made its international debut, right next to another other iconic institution, Balthazar.

The Spot:

Bringing the West Village vibes to Covent Garden, RedFarm feels more like a cozy townhouse than a Chinese restaurant. Instead of red lanterns and a sleek look, the space is fitted with wooden furnishings, exposed white brick and little hanging plants. There are even some red and white checkered cushions, creating a warm and homely ambiance.

The Food:

Known as New York City’s prince of dim-sum, executive chef Joe Ng offers his playful take on an otherwise bland-looking feast. Pork and crab soup dumplings come with candy-coloured straws, vegetable spring rolls look like flowers, and Pac-Man shrimp dumplings are almost too cute to eat (almost).

The Drinks:

The drinks situation is just as fun, available in the dining room and at their soon-to-open Toots n Hoots cocktail bar above. Think Blackberry Fizz, the Kiyushiki with a Nori-infused hibiki, and Martini-inspired Osaktatini with a dash of sake.

The Damage:

Dim sum is priced at around £8; larger mains vary between £10 and £28.

In a Nutshell:

If RedFarm is good enough for health guru Gwyneth Paltrow, it’s good enough for us. No, but seriously, you should definitely dine here soon and order their pastrami egg rolls.
