The Prince at West Brompton Crossing

OPENED 100 DAYS AGO

The Prince at West Brompton Crossing is a food and drink hub near Earl’s Court, comprising four restaurants, three bars and an enclosed garden, with room for 600 people.

This has been revamped for 2018 by the team behind Pergola, who have transformed four buildings plus a pub on one street, linking them together with a walkway.

The Spot:

What used to be The Prince of Wales pub is now a food and drink destination, with some really cool restaurants linked by the walkway. You could do a mini food crawl with basically no extra effort, rolling from a restaurant, to bar, to a restaurant, to bar.

The Food:

Begging Bowl has come back for another season alongside Patty & Bun and two new restaurants Coqfighters and Foley’s Bao and Yakitori Grill.

Begging Bowl started out in Peckham and remains hugely popular (there’s a wait for a table most evenings as they don’t take bookings). Some of London’s best Thai chefs have come through the kitchen there, including Andy Oliver (Som Saa) and Seb Holmes (Farang), and Head Chef Jane Alty heads a kitchen that has gone from strength to strength over the years. We hope they continue to serve their seasonal Thai food with the same flair in this new location.

Patty & Bun

There’s always a burger place, and those meaty boots continue to be filled by ‘high-end’ burger chain Patty & Bun, who are most famous for their Ari Gold, a burger with smoky mayo and pickles, and chips with chicken skin salt. Yes, chicken skin salt is a thing. Yes, it is as brilliant as it sounds.

Next up its Coqfighters with another London favourite: fried chicken. You can try Korean style wings which are deep fried (twice) in batter then served alongside two sauces – a sticky soy glaze and a Korean hot sauce. The idea here is that you brush the sauces onto the wings in the same way you’d brush piri piri sauce onto chicken in South Africa or Portugal.

For those who want less of a DIY approach, why not try one of the three burgers? There’s a chicken burger with smoked sambal mayo and Korean hot sauce and one with green chillies and cheese. Veggies are catered for in the form of a corn fritter bap.

Foley’s Bao and Yakitori Grill completes the line-up here. This specialist outpost of the Fitzrovia brunch spot focuses on Taiwanese bao and Japanese yakitori, which is basically small barbecued skewers of meat or vegetables.

The Drinks:

The Prince of Wales pub has been restored and there’s room for a massive 600 people over two levels and out in the garden. About that garden: it’s accessible from a small door at the back of each restaurant and is also covered and heated.

The Damage:

Restaurants and bars have individual menus, so it’s best to check their websites for more details.

In a Nutshell:

West London needs all the help it can get when it comes to exciting developments on the food scene and we’re thrilled this is happening in what can be a fairly sterile food and drink zone. East London? What East London?
