Picasso Menu at Tate Modern L9 Restaurant

OPENED 101 DAYS AGO

Tate Modern L9 Restaurant has launched a menu inspired by the life of Picasso, available now and until 9th September 2018.

The price of the menu includes a ticket to the current Picasso exhibition, The EY Exhibition: Picasso 1932 – Love, Fame, Tragedy. Next time you’re looking for one of the best places to eat and drink near Tate Modern, remember you may not even need to leave the building…

The Spot:

The restaurant is on Level 9 of Tate Modern, with views over the Thames.

The Food:

Jon Atashroo, the new head chef at the Tate Modern, has designed the menu, drawing inspiration from specific regions and restaurants that Picasso visited during his lifetime and culinary experiences that inspired and sustained him throughout his career.

Spanish tortilla with aioli, for example, is the dish that Picasso described as his all-time favourite. Bacon crapiaux with andouillette and mustard was inspired by his time spent in Paris, while roasted rabbit leg, braised chickpeas and sobrasada refers to the time he spent exploring the ochres and reds of the Spanish soil with fellow artist Manuel Pillares, surviving on chickpeas and hunted rabbits. Seared squid with black rice, peppers and almonds, meanwhile, is based on a passionate love affair he had with Françoise Gilot – the couple ran away to The Riviera and spent days gorging on fresh seafood.

The Drinks:

A wine pairing is available to have alongside the menu, with options for one, two or three glasses chosen by the sommelier.

The Damage:

Two courses for £39.50, including a ticket to the exhibition. The wine pairing is one glass for £8, two glasses for £15.50, or three glasses for £23.

In a Nutshell:

What a fantastic idea this is, and a fab way to spend a little more time getting inside the head of one of the greatest ever artists.
