Noizé

OPENED 316 DAYS AGO

Noizé is a French restaurant from Mathieu Germond, previously General Manager and Head Sommelier at Pied à Terre, open in Fitzrovia.

The focus here is on the food and wine of the Loire Valley, with simple French dishes prepared in a home-cooked style, and ‘no nonsense’ wines.

The Spot:

This is the old Dabbous site, so if you’ve been there you’ll remember that it’s split over two levels with the main restaurant at street level and a downstairs bar. There are cosy red, suede banquettes and lots of wood, making this the kind of place you want to hunker down with a bottle of wine, or maybe two…

The Food:

The deal here is that there is a selection of small and larger plates so you can structure the meal to your liking – so, pretty much like every new opening right now, then. Ed Dutton (previously of Foliage) is heading up the kitchen, though, which gives us confidence that the food is going to be great.

The aim is to give customers a choice about the way their food is cooked, so you might want your steak tartare seasoned in a particular style, or your scallops grilled rather than fried.

We’ve also spotted some cheese gougeres on the menu – surely one of the most irresistible snacks of all time when warm, and pickled vegetables with saffron rouille, because what are vegetables for if not dipping into mayonnaise?

Noize Kitchen

From the starters, we’ll have Jerusalem artichoke veloute with Brillat-Savarin toast, followed by partridge with celeriac and dauphinoise because, well, we always order the dauphinoise. Suckling pig is pretty hard to resist, too.

Desserts sound mighty fine, like the apple tart fine or the baked Alaska. There should be more baked Alaska in the world. There’s cheese, too, of course. This is a French restaurant.

The Damage:

It’s £5-7 for snacks, £8-12 for starters and £17-26 for mains. Desserts are £6-8.

In a Nutshell:

We appreciate the spirit of Noizé, which is to serve classic dishes without any pomp or fuss.

Restaurateur David Moore, owner of Pied à Terre and previous restaurants L’Autre Pied and Pied Nus has worked closely with Mathieu on developing the approach. He said of the opening, ‘Noizé aims to eschew the typical, modern French cuisine offered across London and re-establish simple cuisine, interesting wines and service as it should be.’
