Native

OPENED 187 DAYS AGO

After closing its doors in Neal’s Yard earlier this year, the foraging-focused restaurant Native finds a new home in London Bridge. While the London Bridge area is filled with great restaurants and food markets, Native brings something entirely different to the dining scene.

Native London Bridge - interior

The Spot:

After learning about foraged produce at New York’s renowned restaurant Blue Hill Farm, chef Ivan Tisdall-Downes was inspired to bring a similar experience to London, together with Imogen Davis, who has who has practiced the art of foraging from an early age. Located just steps away from Borough Market, Native is a warm and welcoming space with exposed brick, trailing greenery and plenty of natural light. But the best part is hidden in the kitchen; a seat at the intimate chef’s table lets you watch the magic of Native’s cookery first hand, before you feast on an eight-course tasting menu.

The Food:

As for the ‘regular’ dining experience, starters include snacks from kitchen offcuts (think radish tops and grain husks), before dishes with fermented truffle potato, carrots (including their tops) and elderflower vinegar make their way onto your table. It will come as no surprise that Native’s chefs cook with sustainable meat and seafood, alongside seasonal vegetables and fruit from Borough Market. For dessert, take your pick of Meadowsweet custard with Yorkshire rhubarb and coriander honeycomb, or white chocolate and bone marrow caramel.

The Drinks:

Native serves English wines and botanic-infused cocktails, such as the Sweet Clover (vodka, lime and ginger beer), and the Carrot and Sea Bucktorn Negroni with English Vermouth.

The Damage:

A meal at Native costs around £32 to £40 per person, while the eight-course chef’s tasting menu will cost you £60 per person, excluding drinks.

In a Nutshell:

Using nothing but foraged, local produce, and with a focus on rescuing discarded vegetables, Native is definitely one of the most forward-thinking restaurants in London.
