Little Kolkata

OPENED 93 DAYS AGO

Sought-after supper club Little Kolkata finds a permanent home in Covent Garden.

While Little Kolkata continues to focus on Bengali cuisine of India’s culturally rich city Calcutta, the new restaurant welcomes a more extensive menu and cocktail list.

The Spot:

Longing for the flavours of their hometown, owners Prabir Chattopadhyay and Biswajit Deb Das started cooking up Bengali-style feasts at their soon-to-be-successful supper club, Little Kolkata. With every night fully booked, it’s only fitting the dynamic duo gave their time-honoured dishes a permanent home, complete with a quirky design to transport you to Calcutta.

The Food:

Little Kolkata is all about communal dining, which means the menu centers around sharing plates of Maacher cutlet (fish cutlet served with Calcuttan-style mustard sauce), Lilish Maacher Deemer (spiced fish egg), and chicken liver with an abundance of spices and chillies. Desserts are traditional too. Think Calcutta Mishti Doi (baked sweet yoghurt) and a cardamom-coffee brownie with rose ice cream.

The Drinks:

Spices continue to shrine through in Little Kolkata’s cocktails: their signature Spritz is infused with saffron, while vodka gets a helping of jasmine.

The Damage:

Sharing plates range from £5.00 to £13.50; side dishes are priced at around £2.50-£5.00.

In a Nutshell:

Little Kolkata’s menu might be designed for sharing, but their vibrant, flavour-packed dishes make that a very difficult task. We’re also definitely not sharing that brownie.
