Lego Store

OPENED November 17th, 2016

The world’s largest Lego store is open now in Leicester Square, and for both children and the young-at-heart, it’s one of the best new things to do in London

Why does Lego need a 914-square-metre, two-story establishment, you ask?

Well, probably because they needed a place to fit their life-size tube carriage made of 637,903 Lego bricks, not to mention the six-metre tall Lego reproduction of Big Ben that took over 2,200 hours to build. (Yes – it even chimes.)

Lego is one of the best-known toy brands in the world, and the company shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon.

This new flagship store in Leicester Square is the latest step in their mission to “inspire and develop children across the globe through creative Lego play experiences,” as they put it to the Telegraph.

The Lego Store allows children (and parents) to peruse all the varieties of Lego sets available, but it also features several fun attractions.

  • The ‘Make a Mosaic’ booth takes your picture, and then produces a box of all the Lego bricks needed to build your Lego self-portrait.
  • The ‘Pick & Build’ wall allows you to fill a bucket with whatever bricks you want, creating your own personalized Lego set.
  • Certified Master Builders will be on site regularly to pass along their Lego-building wisdom to all of us who never quite figured out how to make anything other than a tower from our Lego sets.
  • The ‘Digital Endless Aisle’ is a set of touch screens that can be used to call up information about different products.

Lester, the new Lego mascot, poses in front of Big Ben, promoting the new Lego Store.

The store is also home to Lego’s brand-new mascot, Lester – a very handsome, tea-drinking gentleman. He’s not yet available for sale, but you can create your own custom mini-figure to keep you company instead.

Maybe the only thing you’ll take home from the Lego Store is a couple of selfies – and with a life-sized, light-up R2D2 on display, how can you not? But it’s nice to know that a little piece of childhood magic (in the form of a massive, futuristic mega-store) is always just within reach.
