KERB does Alchemy

OPENED 154 DAYS AGO

KERB returns to the Southbank for a 12-day extravaganza of spice, with 27 street food traders cooking up treats from across India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.

The feast is part of the Southbank Alchemy Festival, which celebrates the cultural connections between South Asia and the UK.

KERB Market

The Food:

There are some returning traders from last year’s festival, including Bun Kabab, who sell Pakistani street food; The Indian’s Next Door, who sell sizzling spiced lamb and chicken and The Peckish Peacock, cooking up vegan street snacks. There’s a selection of brand new traders, too, including Rola Wala with their excellent, loud and proud roti rolls and Khao Karachi, which is, apparently, London’s first khao suey joint – a combo of noodles, creamy coconut curry, spicy meat, chilli sauce, lime and lots of crunchy bits to garnish.

You could eat here every day and not get bored – we’re particularly looking forward to trying hot Kolkata rolls, sticky plumb drizzled lamb lavash and cardamom and jaggery ice cream sandwiches.

The Drinks:

KERB know how to run a great bar so there are some really fun cocktails, including a Nepalese Rum Collins and Punjabi Pimms. There’s a selection of beers on tap, too, including Beavertown and some guest brews. Those who want to avoid booze can sink a few pomegranate rose sodas or an iced masala chai. The best news of all is that there’s a happy hour every weekday, between 5-7pm.

The Damage:

Street food is always an affordable option, and dishes will be individually priced at each stall.

In a Nutshell:

KERB are great at what they do so expect this to be a real treat for the tastebuds. We suggest heading down with some mates so you can try as many dishes as possible, or just make some repeat visits! Once it’s over, you’ll have to wait a whole year for the next one (the market finishes on 29th May).
