‘BEST OPENINGS OF 2016’ WINNER

James Cochran Restaurant is East London’s most recent restaurant opening, bringing his famous Caribbean jerk chicken to the Liverpool Street area.

Cochran is an experienced chef who previously worked at the Michelin-starred Ledbury. Following the success of his summer pop-up on Great Windmill Street, he decided to open a permanent site with a completely new menu.

Signature Dishes and New Flavors

The menu includes snacks and small and large plates. All produce comes from English suppliers, and his signature dishes – Caribbean jerk chicken and treacle-cured salmon – are featured on the menu.

The selection ranges from classic to eclectic; you’ll have the chance to sample such dishes as Kent coast sea bass, Cornish mussels and Whitstable rock oysters with kimchi.

The lamb neck and haunch with Jerusalem artichokes, pickled beer hops, and creme fraiche is a winner. But if you’d rather stick with sea food, give the roast monkfish with pork collar, turnip, finger limes and buckwheat a try.

Snickerbocker Glory

Unique, high-quality desserts round out the menu. The Jersey milk parfait is topped with roasted pineapple and sesame seeds; a scoop of buttermilk ice cream is similarly jazzed up with mead, apricots and white chocolate. And the snickerbocker glory is an indulgent new take on the classic dessert.

Though the food says “fine dining,” the setting is relaxed and understated, with black-and-white decor and artwork by Yuliya Dan on the walls.
