Ichiba - interior

The Spot:

While the food hall with freshly prepared Japanese classics is likely to entice you into the space, Ichiba prides itself in doing more than just food and drink. The space boasts a diverse selection of Japanese staples, including beauty products, books and ceramics, alongside kitchen essentials like rice and tea. As you wander around the store and weave through the rooms, the Japanese-inspired décor manages to transport you straight out of London, from flags and fabrics to lanterns and lights inspired by chopsticks.

The Food:

Whatever your taste buds, you’re sure to find a food station in the market serving something that hits the spot. Expect street food like takayaki, tempura and noodles, alongside more elevated fare such as sushi and sashimi. If you’re looking for something sweet, they’ve also installed a traditional Japanese bakery and café with delicacies like dorayaki pancakes; fluffy red-bean pancakes filled with sweet Azuki red bean paste.

The Drinks:

There’s a large selection of sake on offer here, and if you plan ahead, you can even catch a sake-tasting seminar, touching on the history of the drink with a variety of samples. For soft drinks, enjoy teas and matcha lattes from the bakery.
