OPENED April 17th, 2018

Hide is the new restaurant from chef Ollie Dabbous in collaboration with Hedonism Wines, now open on Piccadilly.

The huge restaurant spans three floors and includes two restaurants and a wine bar. It’s one of the most anticipated openings of the year so far and will surely become one of the hottest places to eat and drink in central London.

The Spot:

The restaurant has stunning views overlooking Green Park and is set over three floors connected by a spiral staircase.

The Food:

On the ground floor, you’ll find ‘Ground’ which is an all-day restaurant serving bread, cakes and viennoiserie as well as lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Breakfasts range from healthy options such as Bircher muesli and granola through to baked eggs, a full English and boiled eggs with truffled brioche soldiers.

The main menu at Ground offers a selection of nibbles to graze on including house-made charcuterie, flatbreads and pickles and is then split into starters and main courses which reflect Ollie’s light, healthy style of cooking. Think toasted white and green asparagus with meadowsweet and warm hay buttermilk; grilled langoustines with rosemary and sea truffle; barbecued octopus with muscat grapes, lovage and white miso, and grilled spiced quail with date syrup, shaved fennel and toasted grains. For dessert, we’ll be having the sheep’s milk ice cream with fresh sorrel juice.

On the mezzanine level, you’ll find ‘Above’ which is focused on a set lunch and tasting menu. The latter features roast king crab, slow roast goose and burnt liquorice root among the 8-10 dishes available, along with lots of Ollie’s signature flower-based garnishes, broths and ferments.

The Drinks:

The wine list here is an absolute whopper. At 70 pages long it is, apparently, ‘the UK’s most comprehensive wine list’ so you might want to factor in some extra time to choose from this beast. Also located in the basement is ‘Below’ a cocktail bar which stocks some of Hedonism’s rarest spirits along with a cocktail menu from Oskar Kinberg.

The Damage:

Breakfast dishes are around £9-19 and £7 for a pastry. Starters at Ground are £12-18 and mains £18-32. The set lunch at Above is £42 and the tasting menu £95 with supplements for additional dishes.

In a Nutshell:

This is a hugely ambitious project and one of London’s largest restaurant openings for years. We think the combination of location, chef and wine list means it’s likely to become one of London’s newest celeb hangouts, taking over from the likes of Sexy Fish.
