Franco Mancini and Daniele Marano’s Top 5 Spitalfields Spots

Italian food and wine aficionados Franco Mancini and Daniele Marano recently opened BOTTLES in Old Spitalfields Market – here, they share their favourite spots in and around Spitalfields.

som saa - chopped lamb laab

Som Saa. Franco and Daniele say, ‘Som Saa is on Commercial Street and it serves up authentic Thai street food with a cool ambiance and relaxed seating, it’s on fire…literally! Those chillies they use are amazingly warming…’

Som Saa, 43A Commercial St, E1 6BD

Lahpet - dish

Lahpet. Franco and Daniele say, ‘Lahpet is located on Bethnal Green road and is home to very yummy Burmese food, prepared with a modern touch. Very informal and fun – a must!’

Lahpet, 58 Bethnal Green Rd, E1 6JW

Babelle - canelé

Babelle. Franco and Daniele say, ‘We love French wine so our trips to St. Emilion in the Bordeaux wine area have been frequent in the past few years. It’s there that we found a little secret we can’t seem to be able to keep our hands off… canelé! The pastry at Babelle is every bit as good as the place down the steep and slippery path to the cathedral of St Emilion – without the risk of breaking your neck!’

Babelle, Old Spitalfields Market, 16 Horner Square, E1 6EW

flank - burger

Flank. Franco and Daniele say, ‘Find us a better place for a tender, succulent, indulgent piece of meat… in a bun! It’s absolutely delicious.’

Flank, Old Spitalfields Market Brushfield St, E1 6AA

hawksmoor - steak and chips

Hawksmoor. Franco and Daniele say, ‘The first one to open is still the best of the lot. If you are after the perfect steak, served in a cool but unpretentious environment, look no further.’

Hawksmoor, 157A Commercial St, E1 6BJ
