Cinnamon Kitchen at Battersea Power Station

OPENED 101 DAYS AGO

Cinnamon Kitchen is now open at the redeveloped Battersea Power Station.

This is the second London location for Vivek Singh’s Cinnamon Kitchen, known for its modern Indian flavours, and a welcome addition to the best restaurants in Battersea.

The Spot:

The restaurant has opened at Circus West Village, the first wave of redevelopment at Battersea Power Station. The urban-inspired space is under one the railway arches and it’s huge, with room for 120.

The Food:

Starters include vada pao, a Bombay street food snack of spiced fried potato served in a sandwich alongside chilli paneer, ceviche of black bream with mango, nigella seeds and pomegranate, tandoori chicken, and grilled cauliflower with hot garlic chutney.

Mains are divided into two sections: main courses and grills, and we love that the grill is playing such a major part here. Dishes include wild African prawns with a coriander and garlic crust, pork rib with a chilli honey glaze and curried yoghurt, and seabass cooked inside a banana leaf.

The other main courses sound interesting and are very much in Vivek’s style, which combines Indian and British flavours to great effect. Think Pollock cooked with pickling spices, Hereford rump steak with Tellicherry pepper sauce and masala chips, and clove-smoked lamb rump.

Desserts are really appealing because they also fuse these two sets of flavours very well. Desserts in Indian restaurants can often be limited to kulfi and gulab jamun, which is a shame. At Cinnamon Kitchen, you can choose from ice creams made in-house, lassi pannacotta, and sticky toffee pudding with masala ice cream, among others.

The Drinks:

It’s all about the cocktails, with a list designed by the award-winning Tony Conigliaro. As you’ve probably predicted, the list makes use of spice infusions and other Indian influences, with examples including the Vodka Chase, a twist on the classic Indian drink ‘chass’ made with yoghurt, citrus and orange blossom, and the Mezcal Verdita, an Indian take on the classic Mexican sangrita made with fresh pineapple and curry leaves.

The Damage:

Starters are £7–12.50, grills £7.50–17.50 and main courses £14–29. Desserts are £2–8 and cocktails start at £9.50.

In a Nutshell:

We think this is a great addition to the newly redeveloped Battersea Power Station, which includes a branch of the also brilliant Wright Brothers. It’s particularly fun to arrive on the Thames Clipper if the weather is lovely, too.
