Chakra Riverside

OPENED 133 DAYS AGO

Kensington’s award-winning Indian restaurant Chakra arrives in Kingston-upon-Thames.

Known for giving traditional Indian flavours a contemporary twist, Chakra Riverside offers its upscale Indian dishes with beautiful views of the River Thames. This iconic riverside location might make it on our guide to the best al fresco dining spots in London…

Chakra Riverside - drinks

The Spot:

Designed by London’s award-winning design studio Shalini Misra, Chakra Riverside is just as stylish as its flagship restaurant in Kensington. The space boasts India’s vibrant colour palate of green, gold and purple, while grand mirrors and lanterns nod to the country’s colonial heritage. Located right on the banks of the River Thames, the outdoor terrace is London at its best.

The Food:

Helmed by a team of Indian chefs, the menu includes Chakra’s beloved staples like “lamb rogan josh” (kashmiri lamb cooked with ginger, chilli, saffron and whole spices) and “fish moile” (sea bream made in a smooth coconut milk gravy). In keeping with today’s trends, the contemporary Indian spot offers plenty of vegetarian and vegan dishes, including Assam tea-infused chickpeas with channa masala and tomatoes, or slow cooked aubergine with cumin and ginger.

Expect more spicy fare for brunch: a masala omelette with chunky cassava chips, Indian-style scrambled eggs and chilli cheese toast.

The Drinks:

Chakra Riverside offers an extensive drinks menu, including wines, spirits and cocktails (don’t miss the “Chakra Spice”, made with tequila, chilli and lemonade). If you’re looking for something non-alcoholic, you can enjoy organic teas by Heath & Heather or try one of Chakra’s spicy mocktails.

The Damage:

Dishes vary between £4 and £16; cocktails are around £8-£10.
