Cattivo

OPENED 59 DAYS AGO

Italian café and bar Cattivo arrives in Brixton.

The team behind all-day destinations Martello and Canova Hall delve into the nighttime scene; Cattivo is home to both a café and underground cocktail bar.

Cattivo - cocktail

The Spot:

Located conveniently next to Canova Hall, Cattivo channels a casual ambiance in its rustic café, while downstairs feels like a speakeasy cocktail club with low-level lighting and plush private booths. I mean, you can have your very own mini bar (stocked however you want), or cocktails crafted especially for for you.

The Food:

Cattivo serves Southern Italian-inspired fare, ranging from small shareable dishes to hearty pastas and ragus. Start with fried parmesan crisps or whipped ricotta with nut dukkah, before tucking into pappardelle with ‘nduja and lamb, or a must-try truffle tortelloni with fried sage. There are also plenty of vegan options, including linguine with pistachio pesto, fried squash with vegan hollandaise, and a mushroom and aubergine ragu.

Cattivo - ambiance

The Drinks:

Cocktails come with a heavy dose of fun and creativity. We don’t know who Skinny Dennis is, but we like him already: Brooklyn gin, barrel aged orange bitters, citrus mist, natural quinine tonic syrup, and club soda. Oh, and Cattivo has a whole section on the menu dedicated to Spritz.

The Damage:

Small sharing plates cost around £4-£7; larger dishes are priced at £12-£14.

In a Nutshell:

It’s not just Italian fare and cocktails at this two-in-one concept, Cattivo brings you an eclectic line-up of entertainment. Think showtime brunches with drag queens and disco, super soul Sundays, and gin masterclasses, because they obviously have their own gin still too. His name is Victor, and we think you’ll get along more than just fine.
