Berenjak

OPENED 52 DAYS AGO

Modern-style Persian kebab restaurant Berenjak opens its doors in Soho.

It’s the latest venture by JKS Restaurants, the restaurant group behind London’s top dining destinations such as Michelin-starred Trishna and Indian barbecue restaurant Brigadiers.

The Spot:

Berenjak takes inspiration from Tehran’s hole-in-the-wall kebab houses, combining tradition with today’s trends. The space fitted with Persian tiles and marble tables, exposed brick and glass windows, while communal tables are decidedly on par with Iranian family dinners. But if you want to see the chefs in action, secure a seat around the open kitchen, which promises to be a theatrical experience with the flaming tanoor, mangal barbecue and vertical rotisserie.

Berenjak - food spread

The Food:

Chef Kian Samyani’s reimagines his childhood family dinners, with help from Britain’s seasonal produce and – perhaps a little more significant – his Michelin-starred skills. The menu is packed with comforting Persian fare, including mazeh of blackened aubergine with whey and walnuts, stews with slow-cooked lamb and kebabs served on freshly baked bread.

The Drinks:

Sharbats take centre stage at the bar, a popular Persian drink made with fruits and flower petals. Here, they’ve been given a modern makeover with your choice of alcohol.

Berenjak - kebabs and sides

The Damage:

Kebabs are priced at £16.50; small plates cost around £3.

In a Nutshell:

Founder and chef Kian Samyani has cooked in the kitchens of Michelin-starred Gymkhana; expect these kebabs to be a whole lot better than your usual fix on a Saturday night.
