Beck at Brown’s

OPENED April 16th, 2018

Beck at Brown’s is a new Italian restaurant from 3 Michelin starred chef Heinz Beck, now open in Brown’s Hotel.

The restaurant sits within one of London’s most iconic hotels and is a very exciting addition to the best restaurants in west London.

The Spot:

This is inside the very plush and oh-so-British 5-star Brown’s Hotel in Mayfair. Beck cooked here briefly in 2017 as part of the hotel’s celebration of Italian conviviality and the pop up proved so popular he’s now back on a permanent basis. There’s a botanical theme running throughout the restaurant, from the tapestry-like fabric of the banquettes and embroidered blinds to the vibrant colours of the dining chairs.

The Food:

Beck brings dishes from throughout Italy to this new menu which is led by the highest quality produce while also focusing on light, healthy preparations. The menu kicks off with insalate and antipasti, including small plates such as burrata with marinated courgette; dressed crab with Romaine lettuce and wild herbs, and roasted veal sweetbreads with broad beans, peas and artichokes. Oh and there are crab chips. Crab chips!

Pasta is next, covering regional specialities you may not have heard of alongside world-famous classics. London’s favourite pasta dish du jour – cacio e pepe – features, as does taglioni all’astice which is tagliolini with lobster, smoked aubergine cream and chilli. So many things are improved by the addition of lobster…

The remainder of the menu is divided, in the traditional Italian style, into pesce and carne, so think grilled black cod with an ‘nduja crust, red peppers and cucumber, or aged Rhug Estate striploin with truffle mash and rosemary sauce, to share.

Desserts include an ever-changing formaggi dal carrello, featuring a selection of British and Italian cheeses served with dried fruits as well as a range of dolci with classic flavours such as tiramisu affogato, tarta al cioccolato and sorrento lemon cheesecake.

The Damage:

Insalate and antipasti range from £13-21; primi £11-29; pesce £21-38 and carne £21-80.

In a Nutshell:

This is an exciting high-end opening in a prestigious location and we can’t wait to try Beck’s food. If we’re totally honest, we’re as excited about those crab chips as we are the fancier plates…
