Bao & Bing

OPENED 14 DAYS AGO

Taiwanese street food concept Bao & Bing opens in Marylebone.

After many travels through Asia and wandering through Taiwan’s must-visit night markets, owner Paul Sarlas is set out to bring the similar buzz – and buns – to Marylebone.

The Spot:

Situated on Marylebone’s Paddington Street, Bao & Bing has a modern-meets-rustic design. Bright neon lights give the downstairs cocktail bar an intimate red glow; an eclectic mix of century-old, Taiwan-bought items are lined across the walls; while the upstairs dining room brings tradition to your table.

Bao & Bing - duck bao

The Food:

As the name suggests, Bao & Bing is all about fluffy bao buns filled with everything from pork belly (accompanied by chilli, coriander and mayonnaise) to panko shrimp (with wok cabbage) and a monthly-changing special to keep your taste buds coming back for more. The stars of the show are joined by Taiwanese favorites, including “three-cup chicken”, egg crêpes (folded around crispy wonton skins and hoi sin sauce), and mille feuille for dessert (think countless layers of delicately thin crepes transformed into a cake).

The Drinks:

Bao & Bing serves a selection of playful drinks, including cocktails popping with boba pearls, alcoholic ice-lollies as well as imported Oolong teas and beers.

Bao & Bing - baos

The Damage:

With baos and small plates priced at around £3-£5, a meal at Bao & Bing averages at £17 per person.

In a Nutshell:

While Bao & Bing takes pride in using time-honored recipes and showcasing traditional Taiwanese cuisine, weekends are decidedly on trend with London’s favorite activity. Lobster bao benedicts with free-flowing prosecco – could this be your new go-to brunch spot?
