Bangkok Underground

OPENED 13 DAYS AGO

Thailand-born concept Greyhound Café welcomes a new subterranean bar and dining space: Bangkok Underground.

Located on the lower level of Greyhound Café, Bangkok Underground aims to bring a bit of Bangkok buzz to Fitzrovia.

Bangkok Underground - dish

The Spot:

If you’ve “found yourself” while backpacking through Asia, you might have also found some bars along the way. Often located in tucked-away-streets – you know, the ones your mom doesn’t want you to go down – Thailand’s capital city is dotted with whole-in-the-wall drinking spots. Bangkok Underground channels a same ambiance, decorated with strings of halogen bulbs and garlands of orange marigold flowers, promising good fortune and – probably – self-discovery.

Bangkok Underground - diy noodles

The Food:

Designed for larger groups, Bangkok Underground serves Greyhound Café’s hotpot feasts with a focus on modern Thai cuisine. All wittily named, options include Salmon in Hot Persuit (topped with spicy lime sauce), Complicated Noodles (DIY rice noodle sheets with minced pork sauce), and a “Mushroom Waterfall” (sightseeing of a different kind). The star of the show is “Mor Fai”, a shareable dish of hot and sour tom yum soup with prawn ravioli.

The Drinks:

OK, so maybe Mor Fai isn’t the star of the show. Bangkok Underground serves a 2-foot high, DIY beer tap tower filled endlessly with Thailand’s iconic Chang Beer (not that we’ve ever seen one of those before, Mom).

The Damage:

Dinner at Bangkok Underground costs around £35 per person, excluding drinks.

In a Nutshell:

If you plan on visiting Greyhound Café, it’s now dangerously easy to make a whole night of at Bangkok Underground, especially with a feast of shareable small plates and a tower of Chang Beer on your table.
