Uli Notting Hill

OPENED August 15th, 2016

Uli is a re-opened Notting Hill institution of Asian food done “honestly, simply and traditionally.” The much loved restaurant used to reside on the famous All Saints Road, which was opened in 1997. However, much to the dismay of the Notting Hill locals; Uli closed down 3 years ago. Fortunately, with the help of Graham Rebak and the passion of founder Michael Lim, Uli has re-opened on Ladbroke Road, becoming one of the best new places to eat & drink in West London.

When Michael Lim established Uli in 1997 it would be an understatement to say it was loved by all, “locals and critics alike.” It’s safe to say that most of the Notting Hill residents gave huge sighs of relief finding out that Uli was being resurrected. There were, however, a few against the idea. This was largely due to the plans for their outdoor, decked terrace for 14 tables at the front on the premises. Stating it would be “unsightly and inappropriate.”

Thankfully, with a little help from celebs such as Caprice, the complaints about the terrace were ignored. Now, Uli boasts an outdoor terrace for a spot of alfresco dining and a spacious restaurant in the Ladbroke Road venue. The interior hosts whitewashed walls with calming blues and soft lighting. Everything about Uli is fresh, clean and simple – from the décor to the food.

The menu has had a little shake up too; offering a mixture of traditional Asian dishes from China, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. You can choose from ‘small plates’ to ‘house favourites’ with ‘veg on the side’. On offer are plates of soft shell crab, whole steamed sea bass and a Peninsula Malay lamb curry. Perhaps with some peppercorn chickenskin crisps on the side. To wash down the pan Asian cuisine is an extensive range of cocktails and ‘beverages.’
