The Distillery

OPENED 307 DAYS AGO

Thought the ginaissance was over? Not if Portobello Road Gin has anything to do with it. The Distillery, a four-storied mecca dedicated to London’s favourite spirit, has just launched along Portobello Road.

On the ground floor is The Resting Room. The classic bar serves an eclectic range of spirits, served directly from hand-built barrels suspended above the bar. It features some one-of-a-kind gin blends created by master distiller Jake Burger and his team. There are also distillations of other spirits, including an avocado and olive oil vodka. While we’d never thought to distill these two superfoods together, it sounds like a pretty ginius combination. The accompanying British food menu features small plates, as well as Josper grills.

Gin to make you holã

Head upstairs to Spanish-inspired GinTonica. Here, G&Ts are served in the traditional Copa De Balón (balloon goblet glass). The Distillery’s GinTonic Plus menu gives gin an upgrade with inventive garnishes, tinctures and bitters. The complementary tapas menu is put together by head chef Greg Lewis, of Pintura Kitchen & Bar. And the Spanish inspiration doesn’t stop there! They’ve gone all Gaudí on us with Spanish-inspired décor.

Putting the ‘I’ in ‘Gin’

The Distillery is also home to gin-making experience, ‘The Ginstitute’. Under the tutelage of ginstructors, guests can create their very own blends of gin. The only limit is your imagination. If you want to further your education, visit the museum to check out the first-ever English cocktail book. Alternatively, hit the shop to pick up some gin and gin-related memorabilia.

With so much going on, why would you ever leave? Good news – you don’t have to. Book yourself into one of The Distillery’s three bespoke guest rooms. Each one has been personally designed by the founders themselves to reflect the eclectic culture of the area. Indeed, Portobello Road is home to all sorts, from modern Mexican restaurant Peyotito to healthy-living café Farm Girl.

We’d apologise for the gin puns but you’ve got to admit they’re pretty original. And can you really blame us? It’s that time of the year and we’re full of spirit – gin, that is. For more spirits of the alcoholic nature head over to our interactive Just Opened Map for the best new bars in London.
