Sakagura

OPENED November 15th, 2016

Sakagura comes to London. This Japanese restaurant and sake bar brings a burst of Asian flavours to Heddon Street as another addition to the ever-impressive restaurant options in Central London.

Following its success in New York, Sakagura comes to London, serving authentic Japanese cuisine across two stylish floors. Featuring extravagant varieties of sushi, skewers and bento boxes, Sakagura immerses guests in the best of Japan.

Exemplifying the Japanese ideal of hospitality known as omotenashi, this unique dining experience striving for the higher standards.

Glamorous dishes

Sakagura London 1

Fresh sushi is a must, and Sakagura has mastered the art of fresh sushi. The perfectly presented dishes resemble miniature paint palettes, almost too pretty to eat.

Don’t let aesthetics stop you, though; the fresh slices of sashimi and delicate hand rolls will not disappoint. The maguro avocado tartare with Cotswold Legbar yolk and yuzu lemongrass is a particular stand-out.

If sushi isn’t enough for you, then don’t worry. Everyday dishes include yakisoba noodles and fresh lobster served on shichirin stoves; you will not leave hungry.

The menu is so extensive, you might be tempted to take the path of least resistance and order the shokado bento. This selection of seven dishes gives you a chance to try a little of everything.

Sushi Sake Synthesis

Sakagura London 3

Sake is a traditional, alcoholic Japanese drink made from fermented rice (koji), which is an integral part of Japanese cuisine. A dedicated bar with wooden kappo counter and sake served in masu cups (wooden boxes) merges the traditional with contemporary design.

Other drink options include varieties of Japanese whisky, rum, umeshu (Japanese liqueur), flavoured sake, craft beers and shochu (Japanese hard liquor).

Sakagura offers limited edition sake-based cocktails created by an expert mixologist. ‘Furano Fields’ is sublime: a floral and fruity cocktail with lavender, namazake, Jinzu gin, apricot brandy and passion fruit. If sweet isn’t your thing, try a karai sake — chilli-infused sake mixed with silver tequila, agave syrup and grated ginger.

Sushi is not exactly few and far between in London, but with top-notch customer service and authentic sake cocktails, will Sakagura become the favoured alternative to competitors like Sticks ‘n’ Sushi? To see what else has opened in London be sure to check out our Just Opened Map.
