Rotorino

OPENED

Stevie Parle, of Dock Kitchen fame, is back and bringing a bit of sunny Southern Italy to the streets of Dalston with his new restaurant and wine bar, Rotorino.

With the premise of striped back and frill-free at its core, Rotorino concentrates on sourcing fresh ingredients and producing nothing short of simple, delicious dishes fit for a Spring’s evening. And a quick glance over the menu will not only show this, but have you salivating and booking a table with urgency. From cured meats, wood- grilled meats and fish, an unusual and decadent pasta selection and an extensive starter list, if you don’t go hungry, you shall be cross with yourself. Just Opened recommends the mozzarella (quite frankly the best mozzarella we have ever had) and the hanger steak with calabrian chilli sauce which was cooked to perfection and tasted exquisite, but don’t stop there as the whole sea bream with chopped lemon, anchovy and fennel tickled our fancy as did the sasso chicken with ricotta roasted over toast.

Open for brunch, lunch and dinner at the weekend and dinner and drinks come school nights, Rotorino is modest in size offering only sixty covers, but the aim of the game is a relaxed ambiance here, and that’s one that Stevie has achieved with ease. Be it the beautiful oversized table that greets you as you walk in (perfect for large groups), the leather clad booths that hug one wall of the restaurant, the cherry wood details, the golden lighting or the tiles that adorn the back wall, both Stevie and Mango London Architects (who were also responsible for East London places like the Clove Club and Sager and Wilde) haven’t overlooked but one perfect detail in the decor.

Ruth Spivey of Street Vin and the experts at Wine Car Boot are in charge of the wine, and the Southern Italian selection (which makes up half of their wine list) should be one of the most accessible in London, and we really mean that – where else do you get a choice of two house whites and reds? Many wines are available be the glass or carafe and with the bar accepting no reservations, there’s nowhere quite like it to pop in for a glass of wine and a deliciously simple meal.

Thank you for bringing this to us Stevie. We think that we have a new favourite east London restaurant.
