Rick Stein, Barnes

OPENED 159 DAYS AGO

Rick Stein, Barnes is the celebrity chef’s newest restaurant.

We’ve lived vicariously through chef Stein for years, following his incredible journeys around the world from our sofas. Now, his culinary delights are accessible at Rick Stein in Barnes, his first restaurant within easy reach of Londoners.

The Spot:

South West London is home to some of our favourite restaurants, many of which are situated by the river. Stein has taken over what was formerly known as the Depot brasserie, which overlooks the Thames and is located in Barnes on the outskirts of London.

It’s tucked away in Tideway Yard, which is a renovated Victorian courtyard. The parquet flooring, high ceilings and conservatory make this chic brasserie ideal for special occasions. There’s also an outdoor seating area – a dog-friendly and highly Instagrammable spot for ‘dinner with a view.’

The Food:

You’ll find signature seafood-centric Rick Stein dishes at this waterside spot, as well as an array of international offerings, like the salt and pepper prawns, a classic cod and chips, and the Singapore chilli crab.

There’s a seafood bar, no reservation required, and a vegetarian menu – although you don’t need to be a vegetarian to love the mushroom ravioli or the southern Indian curry. But with a smashed liquorice meringue and a salted peanut butter & chocolate cheesecake topping off the menu, you’ll certainly want to leave room for dessert.

The Drinks:

The drink offering is extensive. Its thorough menu features wine, cocktails, hard liquor, bottled beer, soft drinks and more. But you won’t have to search long to find the Stein family’s cocktail recommendations, including Rick Stein’s favourite, the Graham Greene.

The Damage:

Mains start at £15 and go up to £45; cocktails will set you back about £9. The set lunch menu, though, offers a two-course meal for £20 or three courses for £25.

In a Nutshell:

Rick Stein, Barnes is an upscale restaurant in a quiet part of London, and it’s no exaggeration to say it’s already got a big name. An international seafood menu and beautiful views of the Thames – we’re sold.

South London’s other latest openings include Rosa’s Thai Café Brixton and La Bonne Bouffe. To explore even more new openings in London, visit our interactive map, featuring the city’s culinary hotspots.
