Plot

OPENED 77 DAYS AGO

Plot, is a new restaurant in Tooting Broadway Market dishing up the best of British cuisine.

Cousins Mark Kimber and Harry Smith have just opened Plot, their very first foray into the restaurant business. Keeping things beautifully simple, the new restaurant is serving seasonal British small plates sourced from across the Isles and the lads local community.

Where?

In one of London’s largest indoor markets, Tooting Broadway, the familial duo should become another welcome and unique addition to the ever-growing list of restaurants in South London.

We can’t say Tooting has been a hotbed for openings of late but it certainly isn’t without its charms. An old favourite has to to be the jaw-dropping Granada cinema. Although it’s currently home to the bingo bunch this place was built in 1931 and is a visceral testament to the good ol‘ days – think cathedral meets theatre meets cinema.

It’s a longshot but if it’s not p*ssing it down in summer, plan ahead, pack your trunks and enjoy a post Plot dip at Tooting Lido.

Braised Beef, Plot London

Why?

The great taste of Great Britain. Plot are keeping it local by using suppliers from all over our little island. Head chef, Giles Elstob, has cut his teeth in a multitude of Michelin-starred kitchens and will be changing the menu according to British seasons.

What?

Local meat and fish are at the heart of Plot, with many of their suppliers located just around the corner, including meat from Chadwick’s on Tooting High Street, and fish from Moxons in Clapham South.

Bar snacks will include Stone-in-Oxney olives from Kent and cured meats and pickled beets from West Dorset.

Try the…

Classic staples such as chicken & smoked ham hock terrine with cider & honey mustard or reliable fish and chips (roast cod with curried tartare sauce and scraps).

Wash it down with…

Plot stock a host of – yep you guessed it – British craft beer. The wine list is sourced within the country too, featuring bottles from the Chapel Down Estate in Kent and Nyetimber in West Sussex. Classics cocktails are available on a made to order basis – so keep your wits about you.

When should you go?

Worth noting that with fifteen seats, Plot is a very intimate affair. The Broadway Market tends to be choc-a-bloc at the weekends so choose your visit wisely. This being said the gents are open for breakfast, lunchtime and dinner – so plenty of options.

How much will it cost?

For dinner and drinks you’ll be looking at £25 a head.

Plot London

In their own words…

The food offering in Tooting has been on the up for a while now, and we’re really excited to be joining that movement, especially as the area holds so many memories for us, growing up just down the road’ says Mark. ‘Opening in the Market is the perfect fit for us” adds Harry “A relaxed, community space to celebrate the best ingredients Britain has to offer. We couldn’t think of a better place for Plot to be starting off“.

In our words…

Safe to say we love to see a bit of local enterprise, adore a seasonal menu, applaud a family run business, and with that in mind we’re not impartial to the odd small plate or two either (although London seems to be getting carried away of late).  So, hoping our maths is still what it used to be we can deduce a high probability of liking this place.
