Pacata

OPENED

Musing two cultures, Pacata welcomes Asian street food to the classically refined cobbles of Covent Garden. This exciting new culture clash is clear as you step into the building, a Grade II listed property that was once King John’s. Making this British touch-point Asian is chef Yasuji Morizumi, the first Ramen chef in the world to become Michelin-starred.

The meeting of the two worlds continues once you’re inside. From the Blighty end, find trinkets and glamourously cobbled together displays on shelves that could be in Victorian apothecary shops; and from Asia, plumped cushions in sumptuous tones pad out the seats. Elsewhere, world influences can be seen in pretty lighting instillations and the vintage tiled bathrooms.

Rather than reverting to typically Asian foods, Pacata’s creative approach introduces world-led dishes like the Pacata Pasta – a squid ink tagliatelle with spring onion, eggs, bean sprouts, chinese tofu and prawns. The seared sea bass is another highlight, served with Green, Massaman or Japanese curry bases, which enhance sea bass’s natural moisture and meaty texture.

Move over to the bar, and Singha – the owners of Pacata – have cast their spell on the cocktail menu, infusing many of the drinks on offer with the Asian beer, if you fancy something odd and intriguing to wash down your meal. The beer-enhanced cocktails are as unexpected as Pacata’s lengthy trading hours. You can pop in for breakfast, have your lunch take-away or eat-in, or for the prime experience, come as a group in the evening and book out an area of this two-floor venue for yourselves.

Suited to the passing Londoner, Covent Garden day-outer, or winer and diner, Pacata is an exquisite new talking point in central London’s most celebrated neighbourhood.
