Modern Love

OPENED

Modern Love is the sweetest bar name we’ve heard in years. Ironically, it’s to be found on a debauched stretch of Old Street neighbouring Hoxton Square and full of Shoreditch’s night-out elite. Less sweet, perhaps, but owner James York Pryce’s intention is solid: the bar’s named after an 80s David Bowie record, and suits well this part of town, were modern lovers plan their creative destinies.

Nineties and naughties iconography like beer barrels, red plastic cups and chalkboard walls for scribbling on capture a less-than-perfect east London before the one we now know: an east London of rockers when rockers were chic, of outrageous dance-offs, of open flirtation and personalised DJ sets from local heroes. Modern love of the unpretentious kind, that is. Get stuck in to daily food offerings from Hummos Brothers and Big Apple Hot Dogs, and a careful range of boozy cocktails and beers.
