Mamie’s

OPENED November 15th, 2016

Mamie’s is one of Central Londons newest culinary offerings and is the epitome of Breton cuisine: galettes, crêpes, and cider.

The crêpe has been done and redone: given the cheap, on-the-go treatment of the offering in Britain it’s always a breath of fresh air when a traditional outfit such as Mamie’s touches down to teach us Londoners how to really crêpe.

Updated Classics

Traditionally, the galette was used to cradle savoury fillings such as the Complète: egg, ham, and Emmental cheese. In the case of Mamie’s, this also includes sautéed mushrooms, and the Chateaubriand: sausage, sautéed onions and mixed leaf salad. It is made with buckwheat flour and naturally gluten free.

The crêpe, on the other hand, is made with white flour and typically used to bundle sweet fillings. At Mamie’s, they put a bit of a twist on French classics. The Henri Dès: Nutella with half-salted-butter caramel and marshmallows. The Magritte: home-cooked apples, caramel and vanilla ice cream. (Yes, the joke’s in the name, as some of the Francophiles among you may have noticed.) Calvados, rum or Grand Marnier added to their flambée.

An International Cider Selection

Stowed away in the basement is La Cidrotèque, a cider bar. Mamie’s is bringing the crêpe’s oft-forgotten partner into the limelight with a vast array of international ciders. From French to Irish, Swedish, and Belgian, Mamie’s presents an ample selection from which to choose the perfect accompanying cider bolée (bowl).

Whether it’s a sit-down full galette and crêpe menu, handheld crêpe to-go or after work drink, Mamie’s has it all. French fast food meets retro-chic café and underground bar, the ultimate hangout for anyone looking to escape the madness of Covent Garden.
