La Bonne Bouffe

OPENED 217 DAYS AGO

La Bonne Bouffe is one of South London’s best new restaurants, bringing a touch of French class to the neighbourhood.

The second project by renowned cocktail artisans at Bermondsey Arts ClubLa Bonne Bouffe is inspired by Paris bistros and Provençal cafes. The restaurant and cocktail bar opens six days a week for lunch, dinner and brunch at weekends.

The Spot:

The white-tablecloth-style restaurant is a short walk from East Dulwich station, slotted in amongst a parade of artsy shops and boutique cafes just off Lordship Lane. It’s not far from MEATliquor and Brick House Bakery.

Standing out amongst its neighbours with a bold, elegantly painted exterior, diners can expect a relaxed yet chic atmosphere. We could just as easily be dining in a restaurant somewhere along the Seine.

Whilst the restaurant-cum-bar operates across the entirety of the ground floor, upstairs houses several B&B-style bedrooms for the ultimate indulgence.

The Food:

As the name might suggest, the menu hones in on the delights of traditional French delicacies.

In France, everything stops for meal times. It’s important to enjoy good food and good company, and La Bonne Bouffe has executed that sentiment perfectly.

Whilst the escargots entrée might be a little too daunting for some, main courses include steak, duck, pork and vegetarian options. The Suprême de Volaille de Landes, Moorland chicken in creamy sauce, could quickly become a must-do.

The Drinks:

The stylish and classic feel of La Bonne Bouffe extends beyond the décor.

The wine is imported exclusively from France and for those who struggle to pick from the extensive list, the bar also obliges with timeless cocktails. Given the team behind one of South London’s most extravagant cocktail bars is also behind this one, we’re guessing that choosing what to drink might be a difficult decision.

The Damage:

A main course costs between £12-£16, with desserts and cheeses around £6. Budget for around £35 for a three-course meal and a glass of wine.

In A Nutshell:

La Bonne Bouffe serves up a whole ladle full of European flair, with enough character to make the elegance charming. The opportunity to indulge in what the French do best is well worth a trip south of the river. And by that, we mean you only need to cross the Thames, not the Seine. Bon appétit.
