Kouzu

OPENED

New high end Japanese restaurant openings are as likely as British ones at the moment. The same week as Kouzu opens, so does a brand new ROKA in Aldwych, under the supervision of top German chef Rainer Becker. Kouzu’s own world class top chef is Kyoichi Kai, who worked with Becker at Zuma and Kyubi.

For his own opening, Kai chose a grade 11 listed palatial suite in Belgravia. More than fine food, Kai’s take on Japanese food culture intertwines the edible with the visual, taking influence from the art world and thus placing great care in the look of plates, making them modern like the decor, but with a traditional insistence on ingredients and methodology. There’s a sweeping mezzanine and a cocktail bar downstairs, as well as a private chef’s table for intimate dining near to where the dishes are compositionally put together.
