Hamlet

OPENED 40 DAYS AGO

Hamlet at Almeida Theatre is a revival of Shakespeare’s famous tragic play of the same name.

The north London theatre has opened its doors for a new version of the classic play Hamlet (although a performance on opening night has been cancelled). It features familiar faces such as Sherlock villain Andrew Scott as the Danish Prince and Juliet Stevenson as Queen Gertrude.

The Show

It’s a classic tale of betrayal, vengeance, guilt, madness and death. You all know the script but the play sees a young Prince Hamlet plot to murder his uncle Claudius after orders from his late father’s ghost. Hamlet thus proceeds to fall into subsequent depression and insanity with the weight of revenge on his shoulders.

The Cast

BAFTA Best Supporting Actor Andrew Scott stars as the troubled Prince of Denmark Hamlet. Juliet Stevenson plays his mother, Queen Gertrude, who after the death of her husband, King Hamlet, remarries his brother, Claudius. Downton Abbey star Jessica Brown Findlay also appears in the production as Hamlet’s long-suffering love interest Ophelia.

Why should you go?

With a host of award-winning cast members and crew, the Almeida revival of Hamlet promises to be a real treat for theatre buffs. Almeida itself is internationally renowned for producing talked-about shows that question life and the world around us.

According to them

“The Almeida brings together the most exciting artists to take risks; to provoke, inspire and surprise audiences,” the theatre says.

What’s close

Thanks to Almeida’s proximity to several stations, travelling to and from the venue is convenient. With a host of bars and restaurants in North London, the area is, therefore, ideal for exploring after seeing Hamlet. Take a walk post-show to King’s Cross and grab a bite to eat at quality steak restaurant Bar + Block.
