Florentine

OPENED March 27th, 2017

Florentine is an all-day restaurant and bar with a focus on the best of British.

At Florentine, everything from the seasonal ingredients to the craft beers and superfood cocktails has freshness at heart.

The Spot:

Florentine, situated opposite Lambeth North station, is one of the best new places to eat in Central London. Close to The Cut and Lower Marsh, it’s just far enough away from Waterloo’s main hustle and bustle to be the perfect all-day haven. It’s also within easy reach of the Fire Station pub and Flat Iron Square.

The Food:

The menu has got you covered for the entire day. Alongside granola, fruit, porridge and pancakes, an egg menu dominates the breakfast offering, which includes the Florentine signature dish – an Ostrich egg for four to share. Nibbles and starters include roasted almonds with truffle honey, fried squid with lemon mayo, and smoked burrata.

Main courses remain focused on seasonality and well-sourced ingredients, with a selection of organic meat and fish. The flatbreads are available from midday and feature ingredients from the rest of the menu – the ideal size for soaking up a cocktail or two.

The Drinks:

The cocktails hit the £7-£9 mark; the list features a feisty-looking ‘Cuban Coupette’ and an aptly named ‘Mr Lambeth,’ with an herbaceous mix of mezcal, Campari and potent liqueurs. There’s a good range of wines and craft beers, and a selection of British bubbles.

The Damage:

Breakfast will set you back around £7, unless you plump for the Ostrich Egg Full English, for four to share at £65. Similarly, nibbles, starters and mains all come in very reasonable at around £4, £8 and £16 respectively. Bigger dishes to share are more expensive, such as the 1kg Tomahawk at £67.

In a Nutshell:

Florentine keeps the ingredients simple and fresh, but serves it all up in an eclectic style. Whether you hop in for a quick drink and a snack, or you want to feast like a king, you’ll be sure to find something here to take your fancy.
