Eduardo Paolozzi Retrospective

OPENED 282 DAYS AGO

The Whitechapel Gallery is hosting a rather special retrospective of the criminally unfamed British artist Eduardo Paolozzi.

The Exhibition

The Whitechapel Gallery exhibition follows his work through four sections, beginning with 1940s concrete brutalism, through collage and print, ending with his infamous sculptures.

The History

Born in 1924, Paolozzi was one of Britain’s most influential – and irreverent – post-war artists. Whatever the medium, his focus was form, and he had a keen interest in throwing out the proverbial rulebook. He was prolific, provocative, experimental; he constantly reinvented himself. And now his works are coming back to London, where he lived and worked all his life.

Why should you go

Well, they don’t call him ‘The Godfather of Pop Art’ for nothing. This exhibition is kind of a big deal. As well as his famous works, you’ll have chance to explore some of his lesser-known pieces, up close and personal. The world lauds his talent, so when his back-catalogue rocks up in your back yard, it’s definitely worth the trip. Don’t snooze though, the exhibition runs from 16th February – 14th May.

According to them

The Whitechapel Gallery say, “From his post-War bronzes to revolutionary screen-prints, collages and bold textile designs, this major retrospective aims to reassess Paolozzi’s varied and experimental artistic approach, and highlight the relevance of his work for artists today.”

What’s close

All that exhibition-ing is bound to work up an appetite. Work it off with Indian street food at Inito, delicious pub grub at Leman Street Tavern or get down and dirty at Dirty Burger, just around the corner from the Whitechapel Gallery. You know it makes sense.
