Bluebird

Bluebird, the iconic Chelsea institution, has recently reopened after an extensive £2 million refurbishment of its interiors. It has been one of the most famous and well-loved restaurants on the famous King’s Road for the last 20 years, and we’d count it among the best places to eat in South London. The revamp has been undertaken by Sagrada, the designers of Sartoria and The Arts Club.

The glamorous art deco feel of the venue has been reinforced with a bold red accenting of the atrium’s original steel frame. The building was well-known as the first garage of the Bluebird Motor Company in 1923. The highlights of the new scheme include bespoke made to order furniture and using elegant fabrics from British designer, Celia Birtwell. There is also a stunning, illuminated, curved central marble bar as well as mature trees spread throughout the venue to offer a relaxed atmosphere to the dining experience. Apart from the restaurant and bar, they have a chilled out café and courtyard as well as wine cellar. The available cover for the venue has increased to 248.

Apart from an interior design revamp, the menu has also undergone a refresh under executive head chef Liam Smith-Laing’ astute direction. They offer the best of modern Mediterranean cuisine using the finest ingredients. The format involves small plates and larger sharing dishes which embraces Bluebird’s famous sociable atmosphere.

Branislav Vilimanovic, their wine manager has worked at Bluebird for over 13 years and has overseen a carefully sourced list of fine wines at affordable prices, which complements the creations from the kitchen. They also offer many cutting-edge cocktails as well as limited edition ones.

Bluebird, which has been a firm favourite of locals and King’s Road shoppers is once again shining as one of the brightest stars on the London culinary scene.
