Balans Soho Society Clapham Common

OPENED 199 DAYS AGO

Balans Soho Society has a new venue for their relaxed, all-day brasserie and bar in Clapham Common.

The new site channels the sociable spirit and merry times of their previous sites; but Balans Soho Society Clapham Common brings that energy to South London’s food scene.

The Spot:

The group’s latest spot in Clapham Common arrives 30 years after the original site in Old Compton Street. Balans is known for its dedication to the pursuit of pleasure. Now, this noble purpose can be enjoyed beyond bustling Soho. With an interior designed by Simon Costin, whose work has graced fashion shows including everyone from Alexander McQueen to Stella McCartney, Balans Soho Society fits right into the genteel airs and green commons south of the river.

The Food:

All-day dining at Balans Soho Society Clapham Common can mean any number of things: eggs “any way” for breakfast, sandwiches and pasta for lunch, roast chicken for dinner. The fare could be described as “modern British;” it includes a full English brunch but also borrows from international cuisine, with options like falafel and gnocchi on offer.

The Drinks:

Balans Soho Society declares that ‘those who are easily shocked should be shocked more often.’ Unsurprisingly, the drinks list revels in indulgent options. Whites, reds and bubbles are a well-chosen array, and cocktails – well, you won’t want to stop at just the one. We loved the Hazy Shade of Grey with Earl Grey gin, lavender and champagne, as well as the Jaliscan Night with tequila, activated charcoal, agave and violet.

The Damage:

Prices are reasonable considering the quality. Expect to spend about £10-15 per person. Homemade granola with berries and yogurt sets you back £6, with breakfast steak & eggs measuring up as the most expensive at £13. The Infamous Balans Burger with double dipped chips is also £13, as is the matcha poached salmon. Drinks wise, you’re looking at £4.70 for a glass of the house wine and £9.50 for a cocktail.

In a Nutshell:

From feeding our minds with nutritious options at breakfast, to letting us unwind with more decadent offerings at supper, we love being indulged both day and night. With a varied menu combining classics with more experimental choices, there’s something to suit everyone at Balans Soho Society Clapham Common. Good times all round.

South London’s latest openings also include Rosa’s Thai Cafe and La Bonne Bouffe. If you’re south of the River and looking to discover further spots, check out our Just Opened map of London’s top new restaurants, cafés and bars.
