Ask for Janice

OPENED

Well well London, have we got a treat for you as we let you into our favourite little secret in Farringdon, Ask For Janice. Sat across from Smithfields meat market and open from breakfast via lunch to dinner and late night drinks, Ask For Janice is just what this neck of the woods was crying out for.

We’ll let the menu speak for itself, as its truly quite something. As British as British can be, as many products as possible come from within London itself to form breakfast dishes like Chatsworth smoked salmon from Hackney with goat’s curd, caper berries and rye. For lunch, Just Opened London recommends a selection of small plates to tantalise tastebuds like black dahl, deep fried pickled cauliflower, paneer and chat masala or braised beef croquettes with mustards or lardo on toast with peppers and pickled chilli. For those with with a more ambitious appetite its impossible to go wrong with the baked eggs, merguez sausage, roasted peppers and yoghurt. Dinner offers a menu along the same vain, just more of a selection including whipped goats curdm rhubarb, kohlrabi, London honey and sourdough. See, we said that the food could do the talking.

Set over two floors, upstairs is contemporary in its distressed decor. Interesting and intriguing art from modern prints to live projects adorns the walls (and even an original Damien Hirst print is on show), tables are a variety of perfectly clashing vintage wooden numbers and sit against original brickwork painted roughly in white giving the space a light and airy feel.

Taking pride in everything from the coffee to the cocktails and 50 strong craft beer list via the perfectly curated wine list, whether its day or night, there’s enough choice no matter what your tipple. Although, its the ‘perfect serves’ that we would recommend for any gin lovers (and let’s face it, who’s not a gin lover these days?).

As if all of that wasn’t enough, the secret hidden bar downstairs is the perfect cherry on the most perfectly iced cake. With pretty much every gin available in the world and walls awashed with graffiti, this little bar is the perfect place to rent out for birthdays or celebrations, or, simply to continue your night on post a meal upstairs.

Regardless of what time of day you head to Ask For Janice, we’re sure it won’t stay our little secret for long.
